Local riders win at Days of 1910 Rodeo

Area cowboys and cowgirls flocked to Timber Lake this past weekend to compete at the Days of 1910 rodeo. Shorty Garrett of Dupree continued in his high scoring ways after picking up his second SDRA victory in three weeks riding his bull to 84 points. Garrett also won the bull riding in Lemmon at the Boss Cowman Days with an 80-point ride and finished second at the Dupree Pioneer Days Rodeo. Going into the weekend, Garrett was sitting second in the SDRA Bull Riding standings. Another Dupree resident, Kristi Birkeland, won the goat tying with a 7.0 second run. Prior to the weekend, Birkeland was sitting in third in goat tying, followed by Dupree’s Chelsey Kelsey. Jesse Clement of Ridgeview picked up a third place finish with a 10.6 second run in the calf roping. Kash Deal of Dupree picked up fifth place in the Saddle Bronc riding. Don Bettelyoun of Eagle Butte and roping partner Jhett Williams of Faith placed second in the team roping.
