The Cheyenne Eagle Butte Braves football team ended their 2012 season with a 27-0 loss to the Chamberlain Cubs in the first round of the South Dakota high school football playoffs. The Braves hosted the Cubs after earning the second seed in Region 3. The game was a defensive battle on both sides of the ball as neither team was able to get anything going offensively keeping the game scoreless in the first quarter. Chamberlain struck first with a 51-yard touchdown run from Russell Felicia followed by a field goal to take a 7-0 lead in the second quarter. The Braves defense held the Cubs to the one touchdown in the first half. After the half, the Cubs would find the endzone in the third quarter and twice more in the fourth quarter. The Braves were able to make some big plays on offense but were hurt with penalties. “The defense played a sound game but we could not hold off the Cubs all night,” said Coach Kyle Ward. “The boys showed a lot of heart throughout the year and had no quit in them. We are going to miss the senior leadership as I have been with these guys since the 7th grade.” Senior Jade Farlee led the Braves on defense with 13 tackles followed by Wyatt Knight who had 11 tackles and a sack. Nolan Keckler helped with 9 tackles and a fumble recovery. The offense was headed up behind the rushing attack of Jade Farlee as he carried the ball 11 times for 25 yards followed by Cory Knight as he carried the ball 8 times for 16 yards. Cray Allen completed 10 of 22 passes for 93 yards and 2 INTs. Scottie Laundreaux threw one time for 45 yards. Blake Farlee finished the game with five receptions for 87 yards. The Braves finished their season with a 5-4 record.“We had a great season,” said Ward. “We have nothing to hang our heads about. As for the underclass men that are coming back I can’t wait until next season and to have another great year.
