Patricia Davidson Simon

Patricia Simon of Chandler, Ariz., passed away peacefully November 12, 2012, in the presence of her loved ones, from complications of COPD and cancer at the age of 76. She was born August 30,1936, in Eagle Butte, S.D. She graduated from Eagle Butte High school and went on to work as a secretary there while becoming a mother of four fine children. Subsequently, she moved to Portland, Ore., and began a new phase of her life. She worked in a bank and then for the JOB CORP helping place older youths in GED and technical programs. She loved working in the educational environment helping kids succeed, as did her mother Edith (Woods) Davidson. Patricia was a special person.

While in Portland she met her life partner, John Olson. They subsequently moved to Chandler, Ariz., where she lived for 22 years. In the first years there she enjoyed traveling to Ireland for eight months and a trip to Switzerland and Paris. Later, Patricia and John worked together at a distribution warehouse for five years.

Patricia always loved animals, particularly cats. She had two or three indoor cats and eight outdoor ferals. She loved to read (especially true crime), do crossword puzzles, needle point and go camping and boating. Cannot forget the garage sales, she could not pass one up. She made a great meatloaf and potato salad, too.

Patricia was loved by every one she met, stranger or friend. While not particularly spiritual she knew every religious hymn in the book from her youth and also children’s rhymes.

She is survived by John Olson, life partner, of Chandler Ariz.; son Kenneth D Simon Jr., his wife Juvy and their son Alvin of Houston, Texas; son Kevin Simon and his two sons Cory and Dusty, twins Ian and Owen of Rapid City, S.D.; son Michael Simon of Denver, Colo., and daughter Kaylene Simon and her life partner, Kent White, of Vancouver, Wash., sister Phyllis O’Leary of EL Paso, Texas, and Mary Ann Simon of Sturgis, S.D.; brothers James and Jerry Davidson of Eagle Butte and Donald Davidson of Auburn, Wash., and the many loved ones in the Tri-Cities of the state of Washington that treated Patricia and John with such love.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband and father of her children Kenneth Simon Sr., her parents James and Edith Davidson, brother Bill Davidson and sister Bertha Spencer.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Any donations in her behalf can be made to Hospice of the Valley (www.hospiceofthevalley.org)or the Leukemia/Lymphoma/Myeloma Society (www.LLS.org).
