Lady Braves runners up at LNI tournament

DSC_9826The Cheyenne Eagle Butte Lady Braves faced off with the Pine Ridge Lady Thorpes on Saturday night, playing for the fourth consecutive Lakota Nation Invitational Championship. The Lady Braves fought their way into the championship match after defeating the Crow Creek Lady Chieftains in the semifinal match 43-41 The undefeated Lady Thorpes came ready to play as they jumped out to a 32-18 lead on the Lady Braves. After the half, C-EB fought back to within eight points before the Lady Thorpes’ defense stepped up, causing the Braves 36 turnovers in the championship match. The Lady Thorpes sailed to a 76-44 win to take back the championship from C-EB after reigning as champions prior to C-EB’s three year reign. The Lady Thorpes capitalized on 61% shooting from the free-throw line as they made 26 of 42. The Lady Braves hit 8 of 21 for 38%. Nelly Dupris led the Lady Braves in scoring with 11, followed by Cassidy Hollow Horn’s 10 points. Jolana Sazue led Pine Ridge with 26 points and Santora White Dress’s 17.

Semifinals

Crow Creek

The Lady Braves faced a tough Crow Creek Lady Chieftains as they battled it out in the semifinal match at the Lakota Nation Invitational. The Lady Braves fought back from a six-point deficit early in the first half to go into halftime with a three-point lead over the Lady Chieftains. The Lady Chieftains would make a run at C-EB lead by Evaline Arrow who netted eleven points in the second half. The Lady Chieftains would outscore C-EB 20-19 in the second half but the Lady Braves held off the attack and narrowly defeated the Lady Chieftains 43-41 to make it back to the championship match. C-EB was led in scoring by K’Lona Lofton who put up 10 points, followed by Marquel Shepherd who finished with nine. Arrow finished with 18 to lead Crow Creek. C-EB 2 4 4 3 Crow Creek 21 41
