Spring weather returns, O’Connell qualifies for state

After two weeks of snowstorms and cancellations, the C-EB and Dupree track teams were able to take to the field and competed at the Black Hills Classic in Sturgis on Saturday.
The talent pool was high, with many bigger schools competing along with AA and Wyoming teams.
C-EB junior Destiny Beautiful Bald Eagle was the lone Lady Brave to finish in the top ten. Bald Eagle finished 10th in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:42.94. The Lady Braves 4×200 relay team of Theola Schad, Jimmie Lawrence, Bald Eagle, and Ryia Farlee also finished 10th, crossing the line in 1:58.51.
The C-EB boys 8×200 relay team finished seventh in a time of 9:22.71.
Dupree junior Alysha O’Connell tossed the shot put 34-04.25 to finish sixth in Sturgis. O’Connell was the only top ten finisher for Dupree.
The Dupree Track team competed at the Bowman County Booster Meet last Tuesday in Bowman N.D. in only their second meet of the year.
The Dupree girls finished eighth out of 18 teams with 32 points. The Lady Tigers were lead by junior Alysha O’Connell who finished second in both the shot put and discus. Sophomore Breanna O’Connell finished third in the discus. The elder O’Connell’s shot put throw of 35 feet 9 1/2 inches topped the South Dakota state qualifiying standard of 35 feet 8 inches to earn her a trip to the state track meet.
Seventh grader Chantelle Shepherd finished seventh in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:39.92.
The girls 4×800 meter relay team finished third, the 4×400 eighth, and the 4×100 eight.
For the boys, senior Garrett Keegan finished third in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 18.34 and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.78.
