Local athletes compete at state track meets

Eight local area athletes competed a the State A and State B track meets in Sioux Falls.
The C-EB girls 1600-meter sprint medley team of senior Jimmi Lawrence, junior Destiny Beautiful Bald Eagle, sophomore Theola Schad, and freshman Macy Shupick ran their fastest time of the year with a time of 4:35.45 but didn’t make the finals.
Lawrence and Schad both competed in the 100-meter dash but didn’t advance on to the finals. Schad also competed in the 200-meter dash but didn’t make the finals.
Dillon Miner, the lone runner for the C-EB boys squad ran a personal best time in the 800-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 2:07.67 and finished 14th out of 21 runners. Miner also ran his personal best time in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:47.78 and finished 12th out of 20 competitors.
Lady Tiger Alysha O’Connell finished in the top ten in Class B with a personal best toss of 36 feet 1 inch in the shot put. O’Connell’s throw put her in 10th place out of 22 throwers.
For the boys, Senior Garret Keegan ran in both the 110-meter high hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. Keegan ran a 19.66 in the high hurdles, and 44.60 in the 300 but didn’t make the finals.
Eighth grader Tyler Little Star finished 18th with a time of 11:17.28 in the 3200-meter run.
Daniel Roberts of Mobridge won the discus championship and set a new Class A State meet record with his toss of 191 feet 10 inches. Timber Lake’s Kristie Mettler won a pair of championships in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet 8 1/4 inches and in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet 8 inches.
