Sunny Maree “Chepa” Butcher, 31, of Eagle Butte, passed away, Saturday, May 25, 2013, at I.H.S. Hospital in Eagle Butte.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2013, at Frazier Memorial Church, Red Scaffold with Rev. Norman Blue Coat and Byron Buffalo officiating. Burial followed at Frazier Memorial Cemetery. Wake services began at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2013, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte and 7:00 p.m., at Frazier Memorial Church, Red Scaffold. A procession formed at 3:00 p.m., Sunday at the 4 mile.   Sunny Maree “Chepa” Butcher was born to Yolanda Butcher and Veldon Hollow Horn Sr. on August 30, 1981 in Rapid City, SD.

She lived with her great-grandparents Claude and Goldie Iron Hawk and attended school in Takini.  Sunny received her Indian name from her great-grandfather. Claude made sure that the grandchildren he raised were given a name with reference to a medal he received while serving in the military.

Sunny enjoyed cheerleading, playing basketball, riding horseback, and traveling.  In her free time, she loved doing beadwork.  Sunny also liked to sing, and take part in Lakota Dancing.

Sunny later moved to Eagle Butte where she worked for the Cheyenne River Law Enforcement as Clerk of Courts.  She also is the mother of three children: Emily, Olivia, and LeRoya.

She is survived by her husband, Brionne Blue Arm, Eagle Butte; her three children: Emily and Olivia of Pierre, and LeRoya of Eagle Butte; her mother, Yolanda Butcher, Salt Lake City, UT; her sisters, Ione Loni, Salt Lake City, UT, Kristen, Charles and Emily Hollow Horn; her brothers: Samuela Loni Jr. and David Loni, Salt Lake City, UT, and Thomas Collins, Red Scaffold; her grandmas: Pearl Hollow Horn, Philomine Moran, Wanda Hahne, Christina Moran, Benita Iron Hawk, and Inez Iron Hawk; her grandpas: Steve Moran, Dewey Bad Warrior, Gary Bad Warrior Sr., and Manny Iron Hawk; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sunny was preceded in death by her father, Veldon Hollow Horn Sr.; grandma, Ione Butcher; and grandpa, Louie Butcher, Sr.; great-grandparents: LeRoy High Elk, Mathel Moran, and Claude and Goldie Iron Hawk; uncle: Lonnie Iron Hawk; aunt, LaVani Toki; and cousin, Louise Butcher, Sr.
