Florence Williams – Halligan
Florence Williams-Halligan, of Pierre, died Thursday, June 13 at her home. Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 17 at Lutheran Memorial Church.
Florence Mork Williams Halligan, born to Guttorm B. (Ted) Mork and Anna Florence Ehrhart in the grandparent’s home four miles west of Eagle Butte on March 29, 1926. She attended Fox Ridge School, finishing her elementary education in seven years under one teacher, Della McDaniel. Florence graduated from Eagle Butte High School in 1943 and that fall entered St. Mary’s cadet nurse program graduating with an R.N. degree.
On May 1, 1948 she was united in marriage to Dick Williams. To this union four children were born: Britt, Cody, Kie and Tane. The marriage ended in divorce after 24 years. She then returned to her profession at St. Mary’s Hospital and then River Park until the facility closed. She enjoyed working part-time at the World of Donuts and taking lunch tickets at Jefferson Elementary School. Florence brought her father to live with her until he passed away at the age of 103. She and Ken Halligan were married November 2, 1997. She enjoyed her life and her work.
Florence leaves her husband Ken; her children: Britt Williams and friend Evey, Cody (Jody) Williams, Kie (Ray) Rolf and Tane (Julie) Williams; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and only sibling Alice Norman; great-grandson Dalton Williams and first husband Dick Williams.
