Milton Bad Warrior


Funeral services for Milton Bad Warrior, 45, Eagle Butte, were held Saturday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m., MDT, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte, with Mother Margaret Watson, Minister Helen Circle Eagle, Deacon Hazel Red Bird and the Episcopal Lay Readers officiating. Music was provided by Daryl Whipple and Wakiyan Maza Drum Group. Burial followed at St. James Episcopal Cemetery, Bear Creek, under the direction of Stout Family Funeral Home of Mobridge. Casketbearers were Marc Benoist, Clint Bartlett, Edwin Widow, Ken Fleury, Shawn Gates, Jeff Kelly, Louis Butcher and Myron Curley. Friends and family met at the 4-mile Jct. at 5:00 p.m. Friday to process to the church for services beginning at 7:00 p.m. Milton entered the spirit world May 30, 2013 in Eagle Butte.

Milton Dean Bad Warrior was born May 19, 1968, at Ft. Yates, North Dakota to Gary Bad Warrior and the late Rita Yellow Lodge. Milton was raised by his grandma, Maethel Moran, in Eagle Butte where he attended Cheyenne Eagle Butte School. While in school, Milton enjoyed playing basketball which he played well.  When he was little, he would shoot baskets from his baby walker and had a favorite little basketball. He also enjoyed playing softball and participated in many tournaments. He worked as a maintenance worker at North State College in Aberdeen before returning to Eagle Butte.

Milton is survived by daughters, Bree’n Annis, Sioux Falls and Cecile Curley, Eagle Butte; “on-the-way” grandson, Blake Joseph; granddaughter, Aimee Jo Curley; his father, Gary; brothers, Jody Bad Warrior, Rapid City, SD, Jayme (Marla) Bad Warrior, Albuquerque, NM, Gary Bad Warrior, Jr., Eagle Butte, Terry (Kim) Bad Warrior, Aberdeen, SD, Chad Bad Warrior, Eagle Butte, SD, Wade Bad Warrior, Rapid City, SD, Joseph Bullhead and  Little Buffalo Bullhead, Ft. Yates, ND; sisters,  Jocelyn (Jake) Garter, Eagle Butte, Robin (Leon) Brown Otter, McLaughlin, Jerilyn (Stuart) Bad Warrior, Eagle Butte, Jackie (Donovan) Hart, Blackfoot, Jovanna (Elliott) Blue Coat, Eagle Butte, Joni Bad Warrior, Sioux Falls, adopted sister, Laura Red Fox, Pierre, Dayle Horton, Rapid City,  and Jenny Bullhead, California; aunts, Christine Moran, Wanda (Neal) Hahne, Philomine Moran and Judy Girton all of Eagle Butte and Edna Black Bear, Ft Yates, ND; uncles, Dewey (Pat) Bad Warrior and Steve (Tisha) Moran.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Maethel Moran and Oscar Bad Warrior; maternal grandparents, Francis and Clementine Yellow Lodge; mother, Rita Yellow Lodge; brothers, Myron “Teka” and Michael Bad Warrior; niece, Sonny Butcher and other extended family and friends.
