Marvin “Tune” Bowker Jr.


Funeral services for Marvin “Tune” Bowker Jr, 30, of Eagle Butte, were held Saturday, July 13 at 2:00PM, at the Cherry Creek Community Center with Rev. Norman Blue Coat and Pastor Byron Buffalo officiating. Burial followed at the UCC Cemetery, Cherry Creek.  We met on the hill at 4:30 PM Friday to process to the Community Center for an all-night wake with services beginning at 8:00PM. Marvin entered the spirit world July 1, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Marvin Darrell Bowker, Jr., aka “Tune”, was born September 9, 1982 in Eagle Butte, South Dakota to Marian Bagola and Marvin Bowker, Sr. Tune grew up in Cherry Creek, South Dakota, attending school in Takini and Dupree where he enjoyed playing basketball.

Tune had been residing the last number of years in Eagle Butte, living with his mother, Marian Bagola. He enjoyed working on cars and always liked to tease his brothers, sisters and other family members. He also liked cooking and making Taco salads. He loved to fish, swim, watch movies, sing and play basketball with his brothers and cousins. He enjoyed singing Lakota songs and country songs as well, which he loved to dance to. Tune also loved to help his auntie Arlene mechanic on her cars. He enjoyed hanging out with his uncles, Willard Demery, Frenchy Demery, Jason White Horse, Sam White Horse and Jordan Knife. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.

Grateful for having shared his life is his special friend, Dormalee Martin and son, Meridius Bowker, Eagle Butte; his daughter, Sierra Jade Bowker, Rock Creek, SD; his parents, Marian Bagola & George Eagle Chasing and father, Marvin Bowker, Sr.;  brothers, Darrill and Alvin Bowker, Eagle Butte and Spencer Bagola, Aberdeen, SD; sisters, Alverta Bowker (Eugene), Eagle Butte, Alvette Bowker (Peter), Rock Creek, SD; Donita Flying By (Dennis), Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Dennette Flying By (Michael), Eagle Butte; grandpas, Sylvester Waloke and Franklin Bear Looks Running; aunties, Arlene Demery, Raylene Ochoa and Renee Bagola and uncles, Myron, Llewellyn Jr. and Loren Bagola.

Tune lays to rest with his great grandma and grandpa, Edith and Frank Waloke; grandma and grandpa, Irene & Llewellyn Bagola, Sr.; uncle, Byron Bagola; auntie and uncle, Clementine and Maurice Big Eagle; grandma and grandpa, Susie and Virgil Bowker; his uncles, Ben and Lyle Bowker; auntie, Blanche Bowker and cousin, Jake Hollow Horn.
