The Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Combined Board of Education approved contracts, discussed the cooperative school board agreement and reviewed the staff handbook at the combined school board meeting on Monday night.

Monica Schmidt was hired as the High School Social Studies teacher, replacing Larry Keller who took the Assistant Principal position at the Upper Elementary.  Lance Eagle Staff was hired as the Boys and Girls Golf Coach for the 2013-14 school year.

The combined board discussed the Cooperative School Board agreement, which was prepared by both the Eagle Butte 20-1 and the C-EB 95-561 BIE Board.  After discussion in executive session, the board passed a unanimous decision to present the approved agreement to the CRST Education Committee for approval.

The board met with C-EB Athletic Director Larry Mendoza to discuss the athletic handbook for the new school year. After discussion, the board unanimously approved the handbook.

The combined board also approved the Staff Handbook for the upcoming school year.

20-1 Board

The 20-1 school board met on Monday night prior to the combined meeting and hired three non-certified positions.

Approved contracts were Hanna One Bull for the Upper Elementary special education assistant; Mary Bruguier for the Upper Elementary Title I assistant; and Norma Holy Bear for the Upper Elementary kitchen assistant. A custodian/bus driver position was filled, but 20-1 Superintendent Carol Veit notified the board that the selected applicant called and declined the position that morning.

The board set September 16, 2013, as the tentative Associated School Board of South Dakota (ASBSD)training, which will be held at the Upper Elementary. A representative of the ASBSD will provide the training.

The board approved a motion to send Board President Charlie Shupick to a board president retreat in Chamberlain on August 23. The cost of the retreat is free and only fuel and lodging expenses will be required.
