Mass of Christian Burial for Ruby Marshall, age 99, of Eagle Butte will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 2, 2013, at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Visitation will be Friday, November 1, 2013, starting 5 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church.  Burial will be in St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery, Promise under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Ruby passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.

Ruby was born on February 14, 1914, on Cottonwood Creek, North of Ridgeview, SD in a log cabin.  Her parents were Louis Garreau, Jr. and Elizabeth Yellow Hawk. Ruby grew up on Cottonwood Creek, north of Ridgeview, South Dakota.  She attended school at the Old Cheyenne Agency until the 6th grade then Pierre Indian School until the 9th grade.  From there she attended high school in Genoa, Nebraska, until it closed in 1932.

Ruby married Irving W. Marshall on May 24, 1934, in Timber Lake, SD.  Thirteen children were born to this union; Opal (Don) Heisler, Beaux (Joyce), Sandra (Richard) Ward, Frances (Richard) Gray, Hap (Hilda), Gib (Julie), Allen (Ruth), Tom (June), Tony (Carol), Caroline, Mary (Shannon), Nita (Ron) Pearman, Tudee (Gary) Rousseau.  37 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. After Irving’s death in June of 1978, she started working at the age of 64 at the Eagle Butte Manor.  In the early 80’s she started working at the Nutrition Program sewing room, making quilts and stuffed animals.  She decided to retire at the age of 80.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Irving, children, Opal, Beaux, and Caroline, three grandsons, Clint Gray, Grant Marshall, and Chas Pearman. Her granddaughter, Jerilyn Longbrake and great grandson AJ Anderson.
