Tony H. Feist


Tony H. Feist, 94, of Deadwood, passed peacefully from this life with his son and daughter-in-law by his side on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.

Visitation was be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, Sturgis. The Funeral Service was 10 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of the Northern Hills, Deadwood, S.D. with Pastor Stan Engel officiating. Burial followed at Black Hills National Cemetery with full military honors.

Tony was born April 26, 1919, in Eagle Butte to Anton and Magdalena (Bitz) Feist. When Tony was a toddler his dad died in a tragic farming accident in 1920. Times were hard and the family moved around the area to find better opportunities. Tony’s mother married William Hanken in 1923. Tony has fond memories and shared many stories of working for Cap Mossman Cattle Company and other farm families. He loved the country life and was no stranger to hard work and hard times.

Tony entered the Army Air Corp April 13, 1942, he supervised a crew of six men as flight chief in charge of the radio shop maintaining transmitters for aircraft monitoring at Williams Field. It was at a USO dance that he met Jennie Francis Pruett in Mesa, Arizona. He was honorably discharged December 7, 1945. Tony and Jennie were married at St. Ambrose Parish, Deadwood July 24, 1946. It was in Deadwood that they raised their two children Susan and Alan. He was co-owner of Clark Tire and Oil Company and upon his retirement he was the Sinclair Bulk Oil Distributor.

Tony’s enjoyed travel, piloting small planes, working on old radios and cars, time spent at “The Place” in St. Onge, and the annual Thrashing Bee. Tony’s joy was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step father, three sisters, three brothers and wife Jennie Francis.

He is survived by his wife, Lila, Rapid City, daughter Susan (Mike) Donley, Sioux City, Iowa; son, Alan and his wife Marlys, Deadwood. Grandchildren; Becky (Bryan) Dixon, Omaha, Steven and Kristy Donley, Chicago, Trisha Donley, Sioux Falls, Katie Feist, Lead, Toni Feist, Deadwood, Kelsey (Mark) Horton, Silver City, NM He was Great Papa to; Charlotte Jennie Horton, NM, Trevor and Taylor Dixon, Omaha.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
