Funeral services for Claude Lawrence “C.L.” Maynard, 47, of Ridgeview, S.D., were Monday, March 31 at 10:00 a.m., MDT, at All Saints Catholic Church, Eagle Butte with Father Dan Juelfs officiating. Burial followed at the Mossman Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers were Fred Dillabaugh, Steve Gesinger, Marvin High Elk, Richard DuBray, Thomas Fischer and Larry Gus Anderson. We met at the 4–mile Jct. at 4:00 p.m. Sunday to proceed to the church for wake services beginning 7:00 p.m.. C.L. entered the spirit world March 25, 2014, in Toronto, South Dakota. Stout Family Funeral Home, Mobridge.

Claude Lawrence (C. L.) Maynard III, 47, was born July 12, 1966 to Ronald Wayne Maynard and Mary Lu Rousseaux in Eagle Butte, SD.  C.L. entered the spirit world March 25, 2014 in Toronto, South Dakota where he had been living for the past year.

C. L. went to school at Cheyenne Eagle Butte until 1st grade.  He then moved to Sturgis, S.D., where he attended Brown High School.  C.L. then moved to Denver, Colorado, where he earned his GED.  He went to work for the Native American Rights Fund for ten years before he decided to move back to Eagle Butte to pursue a life at whatever came his way.  C.L. then moved once again to Swiftbird where he was employed at Pte Hca Ka (Buffalo Program) for several years, also working as a ranch hand for several local ranchers. C.L. was a master of all trades, most notably he was an exceptional mechanic and had great artistic abilities.

C.L. is survived by his father, Ronald Wayne Maynard; his brothers, Wayne Lawrence Maynard, Preston Theodore (Lisa) Maynard and Justin Maynard; his sisters, Annette Marie Herren, Kelly Michelle (David) Chavez and Cheri Maynard; his step-daughter, Haylea (Cody) Rolf and step-granddaughter, Cailyn Rolf; nieces, Kimberly, Ayanna, Regina, Valera, Laca, Rose, Alissa; great nieces, Emma, Malaya, Icesis and Scarlett; nephews, Tylor, Marcelo & Marcos; great nephew, Urijah along with numerous other friends and relatives too numerous to name.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lu Rousseaux; grandparents, Theadore and Ruth Rousseau and Claude & Valera Maynard; aunts and uncles, Jr. and Lehla Rousseau, Ann Rousseau, Bob Rousseau, Rick Eberhard, Buster Maynard, Richard Maynard, Denise White Eyes and Wayne Ducheneaux; nephew, Lorenzo Wanbli Chavez and numerous other friends and relatives.
