Custer, SD – Crazy Horse Memorial Services were held May 26th and 27th celebrating the life of Ruth Ziolkowski, CEO of Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation since 1982. Ziolkowski died of cancer this week. She was 87. A celebration of life was held Tuesday, May 27 at the Memorial beginning at 10:00 am. Services were open to friends and the public and admission fees were be waived 7:00 am to 5:00 pm for the event. Ruth Ross came to the Black Hills in 1948 with a group of supporters to help sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski carve a mountain tribute to Native Americans. The pair married in 1950 and raised 10 children at the Memorial, never wavering from the work on the Mountain or the development of humanitarian efforts for the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation. Korczak died in 1982 and Ruth had been CEO ever since.
