Anita Elaine “Suzie” LaRoche Reinhard
Anita Elaine “Suzie” LaRoche Reinhard, 71, of Pierre died June 6, 2014, at Avera Maryhouse. A wake started at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, at Pierre Indian Learning Center Old Gym continuing until the time of the service on Wednesday. Prayer service was 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the gym. Services were 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, at Pierre Indian Learning Center Old Gym. Interment was in the Scotty Philip Cemetery.

Suzie was born to Fred Daniel LaRoche and Bessie “Arlene” Thompson LaRoche on January 23, 1943, in Fort Thompson, South Dakota. Suzie attended schools in Springfield, Pierre Indian Learning Center, Stephan and Old Cheyenne Agency. She furthered her education at SDSU Culinary (Home EC) Class for her PILC position as Cook for 23 years.
Suzie, as a little girl, had special Cousins that lived with them for a period of time: Antoine “Pudgy”, Marvin and Patsy LaRoche in Ft. George, South Dakota.
On September 13, 1961, Suzie was united in marriage to Laurence E “Sonny” Reinhard in Ft. Pierre, South Dakota. Born to this marriage are her children: Mark, Cherylyn and Fanchon. Sonny and Suzie left Ft. Pierre and followed the construction life in Gunnison, CO and Pawnee, OK, and then moved back to Ft. Pierre, SD in 1972. Suzie started working at White Way Locker and Sutley’s Market in Ft. Pierre and Sooper Dooper Grocery in Pierre, SD. In October 1986, she began her career as a Cook for the PILC in Pierre, SD. She cooked, served and loved the children who came thru the cafeteria until her retirement in October of 2009. She had two special grandsons who attended the PILC: Jeremiah Robertson from North Dakota and Francis Little Elk of McLaughlin, SD.
Suzie enjoyed attending her daughter’s softball games and tournaments. Her interests included: going to the casino, listening and dancing to country music, cooking family dinners, developing new recipes for generations to use, watching movies, being with her beloved Miss Kitty; and enjoying her grandchildren (especially when they spent the summers with her, watching movies, going out to dinner, shopping, listening to music and learning to dance with Grandma.)
Suzie and Sonny’s legacy is 17 grandchildren: Mandee (Jared) Adrian of Sioux Falls, SD, Melissa and Clayton Reinhard of Sioux Falls, SD, Coy and Cayne Reinhard of Ft. Pierre, SD, Cyler Reinhard of Edgemont, SD, Cay’d Sedlacek, Jacey Schmidt of Yankton, SD, Royce (Kami) Pease of Ft. Pierre, SD, Cameron Pease of Rapid City, SD, Ryan, Reed and Randee Gray of Lower Brule, SD, Marissa and Jess West of Crown Point, NM, Melissa and Mariah Miner of Sioux Falls, SD; six great-grandchildren: McKenzye, Jaylyn, Jaycyn, and Taylor Adrian of Sioux Falls, SD, Blayze Reinhard of Pierre, SD, and Kaydence Schmidt of Yankton, SD; special great-granddaughter (her namesake), Gabriella Elaine Miner to arrive October 3, 2014 .
Her brother and sister blessed her with special nieces and nephews: Bernard Long of Pukwana, SD, Janis Wiese Claudson of Missouri, Cameron Parker of Sioux Falls, Karleen Parker of Black Hawk, SD, Harlee Langdeau and Frederick LaRoche of Lower Brule, SD, and Jeremiah LaRoche of Brooklyn, NY.
Suzie was survived by her children: Mark (Vicky) Reinhard, of Fort Pierre and two daughters: Cherylyn (and special friend, Anita) Reinhard, of Sioux Falls and Fanshon(Dale) Gray, of Lower Brule; her special daughter, Mary Ann West; brother, Frederick “Fritz” (Cheryll) LaRoche of Lower Brule, SD, 16 Grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; uncles: Erwin (Doe-Doe) LaRoche and Bill Thompson, aunts: Esther Spears and Winona Long; many cousins and other extended family members.
Suzie is preceded in death by her husband, Laurence “Sonny” Reinhard, parents Fred and Arlene LaRoche, sister, Fanchon LaRoche Parker, very special aunt, Majel West, aunts: Muffet Moore and Amelia LaRoche; uncles: Benjamin and JW “Jiggs” Thompson, and Tony and Marvin LaRoche; maternal grandparents, Benjamin and Ruth Thompson; paternal grandparents, Alex and Emma LaRoche; and cousins: Louie, Sam and Marvin LaRoche.
