Funeral services for Lila Iron Nest, 64, of Ft. Pierre, formerly of Eagle Butte, will be Saturday, July 5th at 10:00 a.m., MDT, at Stout Family Funeral Home Chapel, 24339 US Hwy 212, Eagle Butte. Burial follows at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery, La Plante. Meet at the 4-mile Jct. at 5:00 p.m. Friday to process to the chapel for wake services beginning at 7:00 p.m.. Lila Iron Nest, was born September 14, 1949, at Cheyenne Agency to Phillip and Christine (Lean Dog) Iron Nest. She journeyed to the spirit world July 1, 2014, at Highmore Health Care after a long battle with many health issues.

Lila was raised and educated at Cheyenne Agency until the family moved to Eagle Butte in the mid 1950’s. While in Eagle Butte, Lila lived with her parents, and was employed at various jobs while helping to raise her nieces and nephews.

Lila attended Brainerd Indian Bible College in the 1970’s and later became a Wesleyan Pastor, a title and position she valued and enjoyed. She pastored the Lakota Chapel in Eagle Butte for several years. Lila had a heart for God and hoped that she could be an example of God’s love for His people.

In her lifetime, Lila lived in various places…..Rapid City, S.D., Custer, S.D., Boise, I.D., Eagle Butte, Pierre and Ft. Pierre, S.D. While in Pierre and Custer, Lila worked as a home health care attendant, a job she enjoyed as she was able to reach out to those who needed help.

Lila enjoyed reading, especially God’s Word, visiting with friends and family and watching movies. Before her illness, Lila did embroidery for quilts. She had a sense of humor that wasn’t witnessed by many, but those who knew her, could laugh together even during the most trying of times. She loved, but also worried, about her son, nephews and grandsons. Her home was always open to her family.

Survivors include her sister, Aurelia Elk Nation; her son, Delrue Useful Heart; nieces, Priscilla Engen, Lorraine Eastman and Charity Elk Nation; 2 nephews, Leon Useful Heart and Luke Elk Nation along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Christine Iron Nest; brothers, Wesley, Donur and Clayton Iron Nest; sisters, Aurelia and Pearl Iron Nest; a grandson, Cody Engen and numerous other relatives.
