Serena Janice Chase Alone, nine day old infant daughter of Rochelle Breckbill and Henry Chase Alone, became an angel in God’s garden on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at I.H.S. Hospital, Eagle Butte.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., MDT, Monday, October 14, 2013 at H.V. Johnston Cultural Center, Eagle Butte with Mother Margaret Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the UCC Cemetery, LaPlant; where she will be laid to rest next to her grandmother, Francine Iron Wing.
Serena Janice Chase Alone, a little angel, came into this world on September 21, 2013 at 7:44 a.m., at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, SD. She was 7lbs and 10ozs, and a bundle of joy at 21” long.
This sweet baby girl was her parents’ life. She came to them and filled their life with happiness. They loved her so much; they read books and watched videos on how to care for her before she was born.
The day Serena was welcomed into this world, she made them a family. She was named Serena Janice; carrying her Grandmother Francine’s middle name. They couldn’t wait for her to meet the whole family.
Little Miss Serena is now in heaven with all of her relatives that went before.
She is survived by her parents: Rochelle Breckbill and Henry Chase Alone, sisters and brother, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunties, uncles, cousins and extended family.
Serena – Mommy and Daddy love you very much and we will never forget you.

Funeral services for Monica Faith Young Bear (Wanbli Koyaki Win), age 47, of Eagle Butte will be at 11 a.m. MT, Monday, October 7, 2013, at the Cultural Center in Eagle Butte. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Red Scaffold under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Monica started her journey to the creator on October 1, 2013, at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck.
Funeral services for Cherron Sitting Crow, 26, of Red Scaffold, were held Thursday, Oct. 10 at 11:00AM, CDT, at the Red Scaffold Gym with Father Dan Juelfs officiating. Music was provided by Daryl Whipple and Iron Bird Drum Group. Burial followed at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Red Scaffold, under the direction of Stout Family Funeral Home of Mobridge. An all-night wake began with services at 7:00PM Wednesday. Cherron entered the spirit world September 30, 2013 near New Underwood. CherRon Lynn Sitting Crow, “Waste Win” (Good Woman), was born to Vernell & Gloria Sitting Crow December 28, 1986 in Rapid City, SD. CherRon graduated from Takini High School in 2005 where she was widely known for her excellence in basketball, volleyball and rodeo. In 2002, she was confirmed in Cherry Creek, S.D. with the name Theresa. In the same year, she was on the All Tourney Team at the Dakota Oyate Challenge Tournament. In 2003 and 2004 she was awarded All Tourney at the Lakota Nation Invitational Tournament.
CherRon worked at the Imperial Restaurant and Holiday Express in Rapid City, SD. She also worked at the Marriot Hotel, Pepsi Center and Little Sisters of the Poor while she lived in Denver, CO. She cooked for the Summer Youth Program and the Elderly Nutrition Program in Red Scaffold.
CherRon was a proud parent of two young boys: Isidro Sitting Crow, 6 and William Chasing Hawk, Jr., 18 months.
CherRon was a jingle dress dancer and enjoyed horseback riding, listening to music, cleaning, cruising and hanging out with her peers and children. CherRon had a smile that lit up the room. She was very family oriented and had a special bond with her parents. She did everything to help her family and friends even when she had hard times. CherRon will always be remembered for her strong will, sense of humor, loving heart and outgoing personality.

CherRon was preceded in death by her Grandmothers, Catherine “Molly” Circle Bear and Germaine Sitting Crow; Grandfathers, Theodore Knife, Sr., Pete Bear Stops and Doug Widow, Sr. along with Aunt, Kathleen Garnette and Uncle, Darwin Cook.
Curtis Chasing Hawk, 60, of Eagle Butte, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the Cheyenne River Health Center at Eagle Butte. He is survived by a son, Vincent Chasing Hawk, and daughter, Angela Chasing Hawk, both of Eagle Butte. One brother, Dale Chasing Hawk of Eagle Butte and one sister, Carol Chasing Hawk of Eagle Butte. Eleven Grandchildren. A visitation and viewing will be at 9:00 am to service time at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 5, 2013, at the Rooks Funeral Home at Eagle Butte, with the Rev. Sam Owen officiating. Committal services will take place at 1:30 PM, Saturday at the Eagle Butte Community Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been placed in the care of Rooks Funeral Home of Eagle Butte.
Fred Kost, 85, of Pierre, formerly of Eagle Butte, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Golden Living in Pierre. Visitation will be 5-6pm MST at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Butte with a Prayer Service at 6:00pm MST. Services will be at 11:00am MST at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Butte with burial at the Eagle Butte Cemetery. Arrangements have been placed in care of Isburg Funeral Chapel.
Fred Kost was born February 20, 1928 on the homeplace, 3 ½ miles south of Eagle Butte, SD to Russian immigrants Steve and Helen (Burshtin) Kost where he resided his entire life. Fred attended the Busy Bee School and graduated with the Class of 1947 from Eagle Butte High School. At an early age the Kost boys worked in various capacities in the area including herding sheep for Woody Hayes.
Fred and his brother Anton continued the farm/ranch heritage in the Kost Brothers’ Partnership using the Kost Brother’s brand. In the mid-1950’s, upon starting their own families the brothers divided their ranching operation with Fred and Marie remaining on the homeplace while Anton and Betty built an operation near the Strong family headquarters. Fred and Anton maintained a close brotherly bond, talking daily until the tragic loss of Anton.
In Pierre, SD on April 5, 1952 Fred married his wife of nearly 58 years, Clare Marie Jensen. Fred suffered his greatest loss on his birthday, February 20th, 2010 with the death of his beloved wife, Marie.
Fred was a man of great tenacity, worked hard everyday, and stood firmly behind his family, friends, and his beliefs. Fred enjoyed raising and feeding high quality cattle and farming. He had a clear conscience when he went to bed. If one thing were to be said about Fred, it would be, “If it didn’t work, he would make it work.” Fred continued residing and working the ranch until July 28, 2013 when he was hospitalized with pneumonia and complications from congestive heart failure and cancer. He succumbed to his battle only after saying goodbye to his family who were surrounding him in his last moments at Golden Living Center in Pierre, SD.
Survivors include four children, Vernon “Butch” (Renee’) Kost of Amarillo, TX; Steven F. Kost of Pierre, SD; Kenneth Kost of Eagle Butte, SD; Judy (Martin) Albl of Aberdeen, SD; 15 grandchildren: Kevin Kost, Travis (Kirby) Kost, Rhonda (Charlie) Johnson, Donnett Wilson, Shawndell (Lonnie) Perez, James (Misty) Graham, Jessica Kost, Tanner (Brittany) Kost, Katie (Drew) Kalenze, Kendra Kost, KC Kost, Amanda Lautenschlager, Megan Nichols, Madalyn (Michael) Woods, Daniel Albl; great-grandchildren: Dani, Shasteena, Shasten, Bradley, Brandie, Krista, Beret, Hanna, Cody, Renee’, Gracie, Treyton, Laela, Porter, Kianna, Braydon, Ethan, Mikaelee, Delancey, Benjamin, Ethan, Alexander, Trey, Gabriel, and numerous great-great-grandchildren., one sister Ann Kost, one sister-in-law, Betty Lou Kost, several nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie, granddaughter Danette, siblings Stephan, infant sister, John, and Anton; son-in-law Darryl Lemke.
Funeral services for Judy Lynn Thompson age 53 of Swift Bird will be 11:00 AM Friday, September 27, 2013 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Burial will be in the Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery in White Horse under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.
