The 2012 winter sports season kicked off last week as the C-EB/Dupree grapplers took to the mat at the Lemmon Triangular and again on Saturday at the Stanley County Invitational. At the Stanley County tournament, Senior Garrett Keegan placed 3rd at 138 lb. and 7th grader Chris Kessler placed 5th at 106 lb.
The Lady Hoopsters got their seasons started on Tuesday night as Lady Braves headed north to face the Lady Midgets of McLaughlin. The Dupree Lady Tigers hosted the Lady Cardinals of Bison. The boys will play their first games on Saturday as the Braves head to Miller in a doubleheader matchup with the Rustlers. The Dupree Tigers will travel to New Underwood.
The C-EB Boys return after a 13-9 season last year, which included winning the District 11 championship and a runner-up finish in the Region. The Lady Braves finished last season 12-8 and were the District 11 runner up and won a third consecutive Lakota Nation Invitational Championship. The Dupree Tigers lost only two seniors from last year’s state tournament team and are hopeful for a return trip to state after sweeping the Region last year with an overtime win against Faith for the Region 8B Championship. The Tigers finished the season 22-4 and a seventh place finish at the state tournament. The Lady Tigers look to rebuild this season after losing five seniors to graduation. The Lady Tigers finished last season 11-10.
