‘Tis the season…To budget
by Tasiyagnunpa Livermont
Many of us don’t have to check our list twice in order to remember to budget a list of presents.
That can be as simple as a scribbled list on a scratch piece of paper…with estimates adding up to the total we want or are able to spend this holiday season.
What might not occur to us are the ancillary costs of all things gifting.
Ancillary costs include a plethora of items we might not think about saving money for: postage and boxes for gifts mailed to out-of-town friends and family, wrapping paper, tape, ribbon, baggies or containers for home-cooked gifts, ice or paper plates for holiday entertaining, stamps for Christmas cards and letters to Santa.
There’s nothing worse than saving money to buy a present and having to give it unwrapped or purchasing Christmas cards only to not have the extra cash at the end to mail them. Don’t forget to budget the extras for each gift.
