Winners Announced for 2012 Canli Coalition Media Contest
The Canli (Tobacco) Coalition (CC) on Cheyenne River is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 Media Campaign Contest on the Dangers of Commercial Tobacco and Secondhand Smoke. In the Adult Division Bryson Dupris won the $500 First Place prize with his painting; Mark Peacock won the $300 Second Place prize with his poem; and Preston Dupris won the $200 Third Place prize with his drawing. In the Youth Division Kameron Rousseau won the First Place prize of an iPad with his drawing; Malory Peacock won the Second Place prize of a Kindle Fire with her poem; and Ranger Gunville and Tori Jensen teamed up to win the Third Place prize of $50 with their song.
Honorable mention was given to the following individuals in the adult division (listed in no particular order): Jeanna Rose, Tichina Dennis, Lori Martin and Billy E. Iron Hawk. Honorable mention given in the youth division were (listed in no particular order): Madison Red Dog, Alex Looking Horse, Wyatt Jewett, Kristan Dennis, Dalton Fischer, Jessica Dennis, Colton Egna and Curtis Petersen.
The Canli Coalition has been working for the past three years on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation to raise awareness of the dangers associated with commercial tobacco use and focusing on the common goal to “Make CRST Smoke-free.” Coalition members are currently working on details for how the 2012 Media Contest winning entries will be used to educate youth and adults about the dangers of commercial tobacco use and secondhand smoke across the reservation.
