On Saturday night, thirty-five bullriders from across the state, and from different riding associations entered up and paid tribute to a fallen friend and bullrider at the 2nd Annual Blue Annis Memorial Bullriding. Fans packed the grandstands to witness the bullriding talent as high school riders on up to PRCA cardholders made the trek to Eagle Butte to participate in the event. The memorial pays tribute to Bleucher “Blue” Annis who died in a motor vehicle accident two years ago.
In the first go round, four bullriders reached the eight second whistle, with Critter Lamb scoring 89 points followed by Shorty Garrett tied with Shilo Amiotte with 75 each, and Delaine German rounded it out with a 74. Names were drawn for the other riders to advance to the short go.
In the short go, the bulls outmatched the riders 14 to 1, with Dakota Seymour making the only eight second ride for 89 points. The ride put him first ahead of Critter Lamb in the average to walk away the 2nd Annual Blue Annis Memorial Bullriding Champion.
“It was a great turnout,” said Kyle Ward, one of the event organizers. “We were quite happy with the number of riders who showed up. We were touched by all the people who came out to celebrate Blue’s life, it meant a lot”.
The rough stock was provided by Kenny Maxon of Little Eagle, Weischedel Bucking Bulls of Gettysburg, Joe Rose of Eagle Butte, Wilson Bucking Bulls and Don Nixon Bucking Bulls.
