A “Step Up” for YMCA Camp Marrowbone
Submitted by Carol Mann, Executive Director of Sioux YMCA
This past weekend a group of volunteers went to Leslie Marrowbone Memorial YMCA Camp and helped close up the camp for the winter and repair and rebuild parts of the camp.
Cy Cook, Danny Curley, and Irving Curley built a much needed new landing and steps for the kitchen building. For two days they gave their time and energy to helping the YMCA.
The YMCA also benefited from the help of some local teens and a group of teens from the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities (Minneapolis, MN) who came out to learn about the Sioux YMCA and to help close up the camp. The two groups of teens worked together and packed up kitchen supplies, arts and crafts, and the sports equipment to be put in storage for the winter. They gave the camp fire benches, picnic tables, trim for the kitchen and a new coat of paint.
Everyone worked hard, but also took some time to canoe and to cook hotdogs over a campfire.
The YMCA depends on the help of volunteers, new and old. The Y is looking for people willing to help with flag football, soccer (in the Spring), basketball, photography, beading, and other activities. If you are interested in volunteering for the Y, call 365-5232 and talk to Carol or Ali.
