Lavon Newbrough Newton
Lavon Newbrough Newton was born in Salem, SD on September 23, 1922. She passed away in Kingman, Arizona on September 27, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Vickie.
Lavon and Don Newbrough moved to Ridgeview in 1946 and owned the Ridgeview Store and operated the Post Office there. Don was killed in a car crash in 1953 near Parade. Lavon continued to run the store until she and her family moved to California in 1957.
Lavon lived in San Diego and Anaheim for many years and then moved to Kingman, AZ. In 2007 she had a major stroke and was paralyzed on her right side and was left unable to speak. After the stroke, she lived with her daughter Vickie.
Lavon is survived by her daughters Linda (Picore) of Worland, WY and Vickie of Kingman, AZ along with her sons Richard of Rapid City, SD, Jim and Doug, also of Kingman, and Charles. She is also survived by a sister in Colorado and a number of nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren include, Darin, Dayton, Donel, and Dawn Newbrough, Mike and Jared Picore, Jesse Newbrough, and Brandon Batista. She also had 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Donnie of Eagle Butte, and her husbands.
At Lavon’s request, her body was donated to the Phoenix Biological Research Center. A memorial will take place at a later date.
